A stunning performance from Dane Evans was what it took to hand the Winnipeg Blue Bombers their first away loss of the 2022 Canadian Football League season.
It was a much-needed turn-around performance for Evans, who came into the game leading the league in fumbles and fumbles lost.
The Tiger-Cats dominated the game early on and led 34-14 at the break, propelled by Evans’s three touchdowns and 15 pass completions.
Evans would eventually complete a career-high five touchdowns, with the Tiger-Cats winning 48-31 at Tim Hortons Field.
One of the recipients of Evans’s touchdown was rookie Kiondre Smith, his first in the CFL.
It was the veteran’s first game since late August, and it came at just the right time to help the Tiger-Cats end a three-game losing streak and improve their record to 4-9.
It was also the biggest loss of the season for the Blue Bombers and their first in four games. It was also the first time they had given up 40 points since August 2018.
Winnipeg will get a chance to clinch a home playoff berth when they face the Montreal Alouettes on Friday night.
