Legendary UFC fighter and the ‘King of Rio’, Jose Aldo has announced his retirement from mixed martial arts.
Aldo calls time on an 18-year career that saw him crowned UFC featherweight champion twice.
The 36-year-old is widely regarded as one of the greatest fighters ever in that fighting class, finishing his career with a record of 31-8.
Although he had one more fight left on his UFC contract, Aldo has also reportedly opted out of the contract. His last fight was a unanimous decision loss to Merab Dvalishvili at UFC 278.
He currently holds the record for the most consecutive title defenses, having defended his UFC featherweight title 7 times in a row before losing at UFC 194 to Conor McGregor.
Aldo also holds notable wins over some of the best ever to compete at 145 pounds, including Frankie Edgar, Urijah Faber, Cub Swanson, Ricardo Lamas, Kenny Florian, and Chad Mendes.
