Calgary Stampeders’ Cameron Judge has been handed a one-game suspension by the Canadian Football League.
The linebacker was punished for his role in an altercation with BC Lions’ receiver Lucky Whitehead.
He will now miss the Stampeders – Lions rematch on Saturday night at B.C. Place.
Judge punched Whitehead and knocked him to the ground after the teams met in Week 15, against the league’s player code of conduct.
Some Lions players had tried to make their way to the Calgary dressing room afterward, but were met by police and security.
It is reported that Whitehead had made disparaging remarks about a member of Judge’s family, leading to his reaction.
After the contest, Whitehead called out Judge in a tweet, saying “I pray he travels next week.”
Calgary (8-5-0) and the Lions could cement playoff berths with a Stampeders win and losses by both Hamilton and Ottawa. The Ticats (4-9) visit Montreal (5-7) on Friday night while the Redblacks (3-9) host Toronto (7-5) on Saturday evening.
Judge’s absence would be a big one for Calgary. He had a game-high nine tackles, one sack, a forced fumble, and a fumble recovery against B.C. last weekend.
