The nominees have been announced for the 2022 American Music Awards, with Bad Bunny topping the pile with 8 nods.
In addition to artist of the year, Bad Bunny is also nominated for favourite touring artist, favourite music video, favourite male pop artist, favourite pop album, favourite male Latin artist, favourite Latin album and favourite Latin song.
Should Bad Bunny win in all eight categories, he would tie with Michael Jackson and Whitney Houston for the most awards in a single year.
Right behind him are the legendary Beyoncé, Drake and Taylor Swift with six nominations each at this year’s ceremony. Adele, Harry Styles and The Weeknd earned five nominations each.
This year, four new award categories have been added to the show: Favorite K-Pop Artist, Favorite Afrobeats Artist, Favorite Rock Song and Favorite Rock Album.
Fan voting is open via VoteAMAs.com and Twitter in all award categories, with voting for favorite K-Pop artist opening on Tuesday, Nov. 1.
The awards show is set to air live from Los Angeles’ Microsoft Theater on the 20th of November.
But while the American Music Awards is set to welcome decorated veterans in the music industry, this year’s nominations prove that there is plenty of room for newcomers. In fact, over 40 artists received their first American Music Awards nomination in 2022, including Latto, Jack Harlow and BLACKPINK.
And that’s not the only newness to be noted. This year, four new award categories have been added to the show: Favorite K-Pop Artist, Favorite Afrobeats Artist, Favorite Rock Song and Favorite Rock Album.
With that being said, one thing remains the same. Who wins is up to the fans, and voting for the 2022 ceremony is open now in most categories.
