After the Blade film’s unfortunate sequence of events which resulted in the departure of its director and suspension of production, Dennis Villeneuve’s Dune sequel is primed to take its place.
After its superb performance at the box office on the critical acclaim which accompanied it’s release, Warner Brothers green lit the sequel to the 2021 sci-fi/fantasy film Dune. The sequel sees Paul Atreides(Timothy Chalamet) team up with the Fremen for a revolution against the house of Harkonnen. In addition to Chalamet, many actors from the first part will be returning including Rebecca Ferguson, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Jarvier Bardem, and so on.
Academy Award Nominee Florence Pugh will be joining the cast as the Emperor’s daughter Princess Irulan. The Emperor, who will be making his first screen appearance in the sequel, will be played by Academy and Golden Globe award winner Christopher Walken. His character was notoriously off screen in the first part but was of course very present in the events of the first installment. Austin Butler is also hopping on this ride, playing Feyd Rautha, the nephew of the baron of House Harkonnen, Stellan Skarsgard’s character.
As said earlier, Dune made a lot of money at the box office($400 million to be exact) in the middle of the Covid crisis, was released at the same time on HBO Max, gained critical attention, and won six Academy Awards. It then makes sense that Warner Brothers is eager to release the sequel. It was set to hit the theaters on November 23, 2023 and will instead take Blade‘s former date of November 3rd, 2023.
