DC’s Black Adam starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson releases in theaters tomorrow! If, like a lot of people, you are unfamiliar with the character, or any of the other heroes in the film, this is for you.
For most people, it may seem like superheroes are being pulled out of nowhere in order to meet the demands of fans and these studios but most, if not all of these heroes have had their comics in circulation for a long time. Some have even been featured in animations and inspired “alter egos’ ‘ in the competition like how Dr. Fate was an inspiration for Dr. Strange.
Seeing as there’s a lot of information to commit to memory, here are the four things you need to know before seeing Black Adam on Friday:
Who Is He?
You may already know the hero from the other DC film Shazam. You know that when he says the magic word, he is gifted with the powers of Greek heroes. Long before the wizard who gave him those powers did, he(the wizard) wanted to give it to a prince named Teth-Adam. The wizard’s daughter tampered with these plans so he was instead given the power of the Egyptian gods, which corrupted him, resulting in the name Black Adam. After his family is killed, Adam used these powers to destroy his homeland, causing the wizard to strip him of the powers and trap his soul into a scarab. The scarab is discovered years later, and releases Black Adam back into the world.
His Powers
Black Adam is very powerful and equals Shazam in strength, wisdom, superspeed, flight, and even lightning. They are basically two sides of the same coin and Adam can also go head to head with the Justice League.
His Allegiance
Like the X-men character Magneto, Black Adam is an antihero. His immense will makes it impossible for him to permanently join forces with other heroes but he fights for the greater good when necessary. He also has deep affection for most metahumans and in the comics, returned to his homeland to rebuild and make it a haven for people like him.
The Justice Society
If you have seen the trailers, then you surely saw the different superheroes who you may or may not have recognized. They are the Justice Society of America, an older version of the more popular Justice League. In the comics, they have had different members from the original Flash, to Wonder Woman, and so on. In the film. They will most likely look to have Black Adam in their ranks and may play a role in his rehabilitation. Like the Justice League, their members differ in powers and strength levels and for this film, they are led by Dr. Fate played by Pierce Brosnan.
That’s a crash course on all things Black Adam. The long awaited film releases in theaters tomorrow.
