HBO has released the first teaser for the upcoming TV show, ‘Velma’, based on the character of the same name from the ‘Scooby Doo’ franchise.
The animated show stars Mindy Kaling as the voice of the titular character. The voice cast also includes Glenn Howerton, Constance Wu, and Sam Richardson.
Kaling (“The Office” and “The Mindy Project”) has created the series with HBO Max. ‘Velma’, an adult animated comedy series, is touted to be the origin story of Velma Dinkley, the brains of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang.
The teaser begins with Velma writing to HBO Max, expressing her disappointment over the remake of another classic character and just as she hits send, she receives a call from an unknown caller.
She answers and hears, “Hello Velma, do you like solving mysteries?” – much like the antagonist of the slasher movie above, who called his targets and said, “Do you like a scary movie?”
During a panel at the New York Comic Con following the show’s first preview, the moderator says definitively that this show is “not for kids,” and that it is closer to the shows Kaling and showrunner Charlie Grandy love like Rick and Morty and Harley Quinn.
