Henry Cavill has confirmed that he’d return as Superman, following a cameo in “Black Adam.”
In a new Instagram post, Cavill appealed directly to Superman fans in the wake of his cameo appearance in “Black Adam’s” post-credits scene to say: This wasn’t the end.
“I wanted to wait until the weekend was over before posting this because I wanted to give you all a chance to watch ‘Black Adam,’” Cavill said in the video posted to his Instagram feed. “But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official: I am back as Superman.”
He added: “What you see in this image and in Black Adam is just a very small taste of things to come. There’s a lot to be thankful for, and I’ll get to that in time, but I wanted to thank you most of all. Thank you for your support and for your patience. I promise it will be rewarded.”
The news comes after years of rumours, cameos and fan speculation about Superman’s long-awaited return to the DC Universe.
Dwayne Johnson has also been hyping up a showdown between his anti-hero Black Adam and Cavill’s Superman while promoting his film in recent weeks.
Cavill first originated his Superman nearly 10 years ago in 2013’s “Man of Steel.” He has played the Son of Krypton just a handful of times since then: in 2016’s “Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice,” 2017’s “Justice League,” 2021’s “Zack Snyder’s Justice League” and a brief post-credits cameo in “Black Adam.”
In the post-credits scene, as Superman steps out from the shadows to confront Johnson’s Teth-Adam, we hear a familiar music cue swell. No, not the Hans Zimmer score from “Man of Steel”, but something more iconic: The original John Williams theme from 1978’s “Superman.”
