Hockey Canada CEO Scott Smith, along with the entire board have announced their decision to leave the organization.
Smith, 55, had been with Hockey Canada since 1995, serving as vice president and chief operating officer. He took over on July 1 as president and CEO from Tom Renney, who left the organization in a previously decided retirement.
Hockey Canada has been under fire for how it has handled allegations of sexual assaults by two Canadian world junior teams.
The announcement says an interim management committee will be put in place. The board will ask its members to select a new slate of directors by no later than the forthcoming virtual election scheduled for Dec. 17.
The announcement comes three days after interim Hockey Canada Chair of the Board Andrea Skinner tendered her resignation.
The interim Management Committee will focus on day-to-day operations and ensure progress on the implementation of Hockey Canada’s Action Plan, including reviewing and working with the Board and Members towards the full implementation of the independent governance review recommendations from The Honourable Thomas Cromwell, C.C., former Supreme Court Justice as well as working to facilitate the effective transition to a new CEO and Board,” reads the statement.
