After the success of his noir/dark Batman remake which grossed a healthy $770.8 million worldwode, Matt Reeves is making plans to expand the film’s univeerse.
After The Batman‘s release, Warner Bros. and their DCEU department announced that a series spinoff set around Colin Farell‘s Penguin is in the works and might begin filming next year but Matt Reeves seems to have other plans which includes developing a lot of characters from the Batman rogues gallery. From the most popular to the relegated characters, Reeves has a plan for each of them and is fighting to include them in his new universe.
Reeves is not the only DCEU director or star to aim for an expansion. Ahead of Black Adam‘s release, Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson has been hinting at a Superman vs Black Adam showdown in a film. This is naturally gaining momentum, and fans are eager to see Henry Cavill return to the role as well. He has also talked in lenght about the cameo at the end of the film which drops in theaters this friday, all but promising that Superman will amke an appearance.
James Gunn, the mind behing Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy films is also looking to expand his own DC universe. After the success of the Suicide Squad reboot and the spinoff show Peacemaker, Gunn is working on the possibilty of bringing more unknown superheroes from the DC comics to the big and small screens. Nothing has been confirmed yet, however reports say the studio(Warner Bros) have their eyes on Superman and they are very passionate abiyt having Henry Cavill back to portray the Man of Steel.
As said earlier, a good number of this is just speculation and rumors but, seeing as DC has been lost under the shadow of their competition, it would be refreshing to see them take these expansion plans more seriously.
