Perhaps you’ve heard of the Apple TV+ series Ted Lasso which has captured the hearts and minds of viewers all over the world. It has also captured a myriad of awards and its popularity has birthed a tech meets entertainment venture.
In the series, Sam Obisanya(played by Toheeb Jimoh) and Rebecca Welton(played by Hannah Waddingham) download a fictional app called Bantr, where users are not shown each other’s photos. Following this, the woman-led and women-focused dating app Bumble is partnering with the tv show, to bring this feature to their users in the UK, US, Canada and Australia.
This Thursday the 13th of October, Bumble will be premiering a weekly session of blind dating called “Bantr live”. This feature takes after the blind dating experience in that it lets users interact with others before viewing their photos. In a statement, Olivia Yu, Bumble’s global VP of partnerships, said that “The premise of Bantr is a dating experience many of our members have expressed interest in over the years. Bantr Live enables our community to connect with someone unexpectedly and learn more about a person before seeing them. We look forward to people on Bumble having fun with Bantr Live and connecting and dating in a new and exciting way”.
From the 13th and every Thursday after, users will experience the live event which shows them a potential match and gives them three minutes to connect. If the conversation goes as planned, they can decide to match and view each other’s photos. Participation in this event also gifts users a two-month subscription to Apple TV+.
