Sex, drugs, and complicated characters. These were the ingredients involved in the making one of the biggest shows of 2021. After its groundbreaking debut last year, with twenty Emmy nominations and ten wins, including the best writing and directing categories, The White Lotus is gearing up for a return to HBO this October. Precisely on the 30th.
The new trailer sheds more light on the premise of the forthcoming season. Aubrey Plaza, who is the new lead, portrays a married woman named Harper Spiller, on holiday with her friends and husband.
Jennifer Coolidge, still fresh from her Emmy win as season one’s heiress Tanya McQuoid, is back. Fans will recall that she was grieving the loss of her mother in season one and developed a bond with The White Lotus spa runner Belinda(played by Natasha Rothwell) before ditching her for hotel guest Jon Gries. Coolidge and Gries return as season regulars who are apparently married off screen and are now vacationing in Sicily together with Harper and her friends. In this season, Tanya suspects that Greg may be cheating on her.
Alongside Aubrey Plaza and Jennifer Coolidge, this season also features stars such as Theo James, F. Murray Abraham, Adam DiMarco, Tom Hollander, Michael Imperioli, Haley Lu Richardson, Meghann Fahy, Will Sharpe and Leo Woodall.
Mike White with his two Emmy wins from last month returns as showrunner, writer and director. White who is also famous for writing for shows like Enlightened and films such as The School of Rock, Freaks and Geeks, promises a fun packed season to rival the brilliance of the first.
The new season premieres on HBO and it’s streaming equivalent HBO Max at the end of this month. Watch the trailer below.
