Fans have criticized the decision to cast Chris Pratt as Mario following the release of the first trailer for the ‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’.
Nintendo dropped a highly anticipated teaser trailer for the movie on Thursday, and many people were not pleased with the actor’s voicing of the role.
The trailer shows the popular villain Bowser (played by Jack Black) leading a large army of Koopas, and ends with a few seconds of Mario as he falls into a mushroom field.
The movie also stars Anya Taylor-Joy as Princess Peach, Charlie Day as Luigi, Keegan-Michael Key as Toad, and Seth Rogen as Donkey Kong.
“It’s been a lifelong dream of mine to be Mario,” Pratt says in a video clip preceding the trailer, relating how he played Mario games on a machine at his childhood laundromat.
‘The Super Mario Bros. Movie’ is scheduled for release on April 7, 2023. Watch the trailer below.
