In what has been a start filled with end to end action and goals at the FIFA World Cup, Denmark and Tunisia offered fans the tournament’s first goalless game.
Denmark’s talismanic midfielder, Christian Eriksen made his return to a major tournament 18 months after suffering a cardiac arrest at Euro 2020. However, his team struggled to adapt to Tunisia’s aggressive style
Tunisia came into the matchup as underdogs but fought valiantly to give their fans a performance worth cheering inside the Education City Stadium. They escaped a late scare when referee Cesar Ramos was asked to come to the monitor for a VAR check following an incident where a corner from Eriksen hit the arm of Tunisia’s Yassine Meriah, However, the referee decided against awarding a penalty to the relief of the roaring crowd.
The 24 shots without a single goal marks the most shots recorded in a goalless draw at the World Cup since Netherlands against Costa Rica back in July 2014.
The African side would be delighted with a point as that sets them up for their next game against Australia, while Denmark have to face group favorites, France.
