Four years ago, Croatia were 90 minutes away from their first ever World Cup win but lost to France, this year they began their campaign with a disappointing goalless draw against Morocco.
This makes it the first time in their six appearances at the World Cup where Croatia begin the competition with a draw.
Morocco are a very well drilled side, losing just twice in their last 40 games over the last three years. The closest Croatia came to a goal was via a toe-poked effort from Nikola Vlasic. The North African side, ranked 22nd in the latest FIFA rankings came close when Bayern Munich’s Noussair Mazraoui followed in a deflected shot and saw a back-post header saved.
Since Walid Regragui was appointed head coach of the Atlas Lions back in August 2022, he has yet to watch his side concede a goal.
The result of this game marks the third goalless draw of the World Cup so far, after Denmark’s opener against Tunisia and the game between Poland and Mexico on Tuesday.
Up next for both teams, Croatia face Canada on Sunday, while Morocco go up against Belgium on the same day.
