Portugal’s World Cup clash against Uruguay on Monday was briefly interrupted by a pitch invader wearing a “Save Ukraine” shirt and a rainbow-coloured flag.
Security officials chased the protester down and the flag was dropped on the field before he was escorted off the field. The referee then picked up the flag and left it on the sideline, where it stayed for a few moments before a worker came and collected it.
It wasn’t immediately clear if the protester faced any charges or had been detained by police.
The tournament has been surrounded by controversy over hosts Qatar’s treatment of the LGBT community as well as anti-government demonstrations in Iran.
