Erik ten Hag has reportedly told Manchester United ownership that Cristiano Ronaldo shouldn’t play for the club again.
On Sunday night, Ronaldo gave an interview to Piers Morgan where he explained his feelings about Manchester United and manager ten Hag.
Ten Hag reportedly told the club that he “should not play for the club again” in a meeting with co-chairman Joel Glazer, chief executive Richard Arnold and football director John Murtough.
Ronaldo had some strong words about the Dutch coach, who he hasn’t had a good relationship with since Ten Hag arrived prior to the current season. “I don’t have respect for him because he doesn’t show respect for me,” Ronaldo said to Talk TV on Sunday.
Manchester United players are also reportedly disappointed with the way Cristiano Ronaldo has behaved, but they want to focus on football and not get involved in off-the-pitch issues.
Ronaldo has now joined up with the Portugal squad ahead of the World Cup and was given a frosty reception by his United team-mate Bruno Fernandes following the interview.
United responded to the interview on Monday with the following statement: “Manchester United notes the media coverage regarding an interview by Cristiano Ronaldo.
“The club will consider its response after the full facts have been established.
“Our focus remains on preparing for the second half of the season and continuing the momentum, belief and togetherness being built among the players, manager, staff, and fans.”
