It looks like HBO has quietly leaked a release date for the much awaited live action adaptation of Naughty Dog’s The Last of Us.
Right there on the official HBO Max page, a text description reveals that the show will arrive on January 15, 2023. With the date being a Sunday, it makes sense as a flagship HBO show is expected to air on Sundays.
The show which is based on Naughty Dog’s post-apocalyptic adventure game of the same name, stars Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie. The game’s original creator, Neil Druckmann also serves as a writer on the long-awaited series so expect it to stay true to the game.
The Last of Us follows Joel who, after the tragic death of his daughter, accompanies a young girl named Ellie across an apocalyptic America, in search for the cure to the devastating brain virus that has taken over the country.
An official date confirmation from HBO is expected in the coming days. The first season of the show is expected to span 10 episodes.
