When Henry Cavill put on the cape as Superman in 2008’s Man of Steel, fans of the world famouys superhero applauded the move.
It seemed like a match made in comic book heaven as Cavill carried that boyish charm and innocence that has come to be attributed to the alien from Krypton. After 2017’s Justice League, Cavill confirmed that he was under contract to play Superman in one more movie.
However, following his appearance in Black Adam, it looks like there’ll be a lot more coming for Cavill as Superman.
Speaking about his return, he said
“It was something which I had to very gently hold onto in my heart, because I didn’t know whether I would have the opportunity to play it again…[But] the opportunity was very important to get again, and I’m very, very lucky and feel very privileged to have that opportunity now.”
He also added that he was initially drawn to play Superman given the beauty he perceived within the character. “There’s something so true and honest and hopeful, which is the best of all of us, and I love that,” he said.
Cavill took to Instagram to confirm his return as the boy in blue.
“I wanted to wait the weekend before posting this because I wanted to give you all the chance to watch Black Adam. But now that plenty of you have, I wanted to make it official that I am back as Superman,”
It remains to be seen what plans DC has for Cavill and Superman for the future but a sequel to Man of Steel rumored to be in the works.
