Tiger Woods has announced his withdrawal from the Hero World Challenge due to a foot injury.
The tournament, which benefits the Woods’ charity, TGR Foundation, was supposed to be his first start since he missed the cut in the 150th Open Championship at St. Andrews in July.
Woods said in a statement that he had “developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot, which is making it difficult to walk.” He added that he will still be able to handle his hosting duties and that he plans to still compete in The Match and PNC Championship in the coming weeks.
“In preparation and practice for this week’s Hero World Challenge, I’ve developed plantar fasciitis in my right foot, which is making it difficult to walk,” Woods wrote in a statement.
“After consulting with my doctors and trainers, I have decided to withdraw this week and focus on my hosting duties. My plan is still to compete in The Match and PNC Championship.”
His next chance to compete will be in The Match on Dec. 10 when he will partner with Rory McIlroy to take on Jordan Spieth and Justin Thomas at Pelican Golf Club in Belleair, Fla.
The week after that, he and his son Charlie will play the two-day PNC Championship at the Ritz-Carlton Golf Club Orlando, competing against other pros and their family members.
