Alex Ovechkin scored two goals for the Washington Capitals against the Vancouver Canucks, pushing him past Wayne Gretzky for the most road goals scored in National Hockey League history.
Ovechkin’s tallies against the Canucks were the 402nd and 403rd on the road in his 18-year career, passing Hall of Famer Gretzky for the most on visiting ice in NHL history.
It also marked Ovechkin’s second multi-goal game this season and 160th of his career. Only Gretzky, who retired with 189, has more multi-goal games in NHL history.
The 37-year-old Ovechkin, who now has 793 in total, sits third in all-time goals scored in the NHL, behind Gordie Howe (801) and Wayne Gretzky (894).
