Steph Curry and Klay Thompson combined for 74 points and 17 3-pointers as the Golden State Warriors won their first road game of the season.
The Warriors defeated the Houston Rockets 127-120 on the back of 41 points and 10 3-pointers from Klay Thompson and 33 points, 7 3-pointers and 15 assists from Steph Curry. The win snapped the Dubs 8 game losing streak away from the Chase Center and moves the team’s record to 8-9, one game off a .500 record.
Golden State has won five of its last seven games following a 3-7 start.
āIt didnāt sit well with us, our 0-8 record,ā Curry said. āWe had to scratch and claw to get this one, so to get that monkey off your back and feel good about yourselves outside of the Chase Center, it matters.ā
Even though the Dubs came out with a win, some problems still exist. After leading by 12 points after the first quarter, a stretch of misses, turnovers, and general lackadaisical play from the second unit resulted in a second quarter that saw the Warriors outscored by 16 points, leaving the Warriors with a four-point deficit at the half.
Moses Moody was the only member of the bench mob with a positive plus/minus in the win.
After a rocky start to the season, it looks like Klay Thompson has turned a corner. He started off the game making his first six shots, and finishing with 14-of-23 shooting, including 10-of-13 from beyond the arc.
To help seal the win, Curry, falling backward, threw up an off-balance 3-pointer to give Golden State a 126-117 lead with 34 seconds remaining. His signature night night celebration followed in what served as a dagger to the hearts of Rockets fans.
Speaking to reporters after the game, Curry admitted that he surprised himself with that shot.
Up next for the Golden State Warriors is a trip to New Orleans to face the Pelicans on Monday night.
