The Harry Potter franchise might seem like it had reached it’s end but it looks like the big wigs at Warner Bros. have renewed interest in that universe.
W.B CEO, David Zaslav told investors this week that the focus moving forward was on franchises. He added that the studio would be interested in making more Potter movies if something could be worked out with J.K Rowling.
“We’re going to focus on franchises,” Zaslav said during an investor call. “We haven’t had a Superman movie in 13 years. We haven’t done a Harry Potter in 15 years. The DC movies and the Harry Potter movies provided a lot of the profits for Warner Bros … over the past 25 years. I’d like to see if we can do something with J.K. on Harry Potter going forward.”
It’s unsurprising that Warner Bros would like a return to Hogwarts. The Harry Potter franchise was a global phenomenon, with eight films released over ten years and a box office total of $7.7 billion.
However, the spin-off series, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them which was also written by Rowling did not hit the same heights as its predecessor. The last installment, The Secrets of Dumbledore, only earned $405.1 million worldwide.
