Following a World Cup outing that featured three group stage losses and just two goals scored, Canada have now fallen a dozen spots in the new FIFA rankings.
Formerly ranked as the 41st best team in the world, the Canucks were the biggest fallers alongside Qatar as they’re now ranked as the 53rd best team in the world.
Teams like Romania, Greece and Burkina Faso are all ranked above Canada, none of whom qualified for the just concluded Qatar World Cup.
Ahead of the tournament, head coach John Herdman led the team to the top of Concacaf qualifying, booking Canada’s place in the World Cup for the first time. However, following the team’s performance in Qatar, they remain the lowest-ranked team of all four Concacaf World Cup participants.
Some new faces have broken into the top of the ranking following their World Cup performances. Argentina, still celebrating their triumph went up one spot from 3rd to 2nd as fellow finalists France also went from 4th to 3rd.
Morocco are the biggest leapers in the latest rankings as they force their way into the top 15 following their fairytale run in the tournament. The African nation is now ranked 11th, up 11 spots from their previously ranked 22nd place.
