Chelsea have completed the signing of RB Leipzig’s French forward Christopher Nkunku.
The deal was reportedly completed on Saturday, but Nkunku will remain with Leipzig until the end of the season.
The 25-year-old brings an impressive record with him to the side, having scored 12 and assisted twice in just 15 Bundesliga appearances this season.
Nkunku had a £53million release clause in his Leipzig contract but Fabrizio Romano has reported that the Blues paid around £10m more than that to get a deal done early.
In an interview with French television broadcaster Telefoot earlier this season, as quoted by GFFN, the highly sought-after forward broke his silence regarding his next step: “It’s no secret. There are clubs interested in me. Yes it’s flattering, but it’s also flattering to have a club like Leipzig do everything to keep me as well.
“I’ll have to reflect well and make a decision. The World Cup is on the way and that’s another factor to take into account.”
Chelsea have also been linked with another striker, in the shape of Norwegian side FK Molde’s David Datro Fofana.
The Ivorian forward could be on the move in the January transfer window for just £8.6m, and has already revealed that Chelsea would be his dream destination.
