Over 40 inbound and outgoing flights from the Kelowna Airport were cancelled due to bad weather in the Okanagan area and across the country.
Christmas week is the busiest time of the year at Kelowna airport with up to 8,000 passengers taking off and arriving daily.
Airport officials say as of 3 p.m. today 45 flights have already been cancelled. Two flights scheduled for Wednesday have also now been cancelled.
Airlines had emailed and texted passengers early to notify them of the cancellations, so many people didn’t even bother to show up at the airport.
“As with any adverse weather situation, this one continues to evolve,”officials stated in a news release.
“Delays and cancellations of flights today, may cause impacts to flights scheduled for tomorrow. Passengers are asked to check with their airline for the most up to date flight information before coming to the airport.”
