Liverpool have beaten Manchester United to the signature of Netherlands and PSV star, Cody Gakpo.
The surprise Anfield move was confirmed by PSV Eindhoven on Monday evening after talks were finalised for the 23-year-old attacker.
Gakpo, 23, had an impressive World Cup in Qatar, scoring three goals as he helped the Netherlands reach the quarter-finals.
A medical has been pencilled in to take place on Merseyside over the next 48 hours with Gakpo becoming a Liverpool player on January 1.
The fee for the winger is expected to be between 40m-50m euros.
Reds manager Jurgen Klopp shifted attention to his forward line too because of injuries to Luis Diaz and Diogo Jota. Diaz has a knee injury which will keep him out for several months, while Jota is also in rehabilitation for calf injury.
“PSV and LFC have reached an agreement on the proposed transfer of Cody Gakpo,” read a PSV statement.
“The PSV management completed the negotiations on Boxing Day and gave Gakpo permission to travel to England.
“The 23-year-old attacker will leave for England imminently where he will be subjected to the necessary formalities ahead of the completion of the transfer.”
Gakpo has been in fine form this season, scoring nine goals and providing 12 assists in 14 league games for PSV.
