Police have announced the death of a 19-year-old after a shooting at the Mall of America in Minnesota, USA.
Just before 8 p.m local time, officers heard gunshots on the first floor of the Nordstrom store. When officers went into the Nordstrom, they found one male shot multiple times, Bloomington Police Chief Booker Hodges said during a news conference late Friday night. Police are working to identify the suspect.
There appeared to be some type of altercation between two groups, and at one point, someone pulled out a gun and shot the victim multiple times, the chief said. The entire incident lasted about 30 seconds.
A bystander’s jacket was also grazed by a bullet during the shooting at the mall’s Nordstrom location.
Preliminary investigation reveals that there was an altercation Friday between a group of about five to nine people inside Nordstrom. Store surveillance video shows a male pulling out a gun and shooting the victim, Hodges said.
Hodges urged the gunman and the others involved in the fight to turn themselves in to police.
“We have an incident where if someone decides that they want to pull out a gun and shoot somebody with complete lack of disrespect for human life, I still don’t know what we can do to stop that,” Hodges said.
“We are going to catch you, we are going to lock you up and you are going to get an orange jumpsuit,” he added. “It’s just a matter of when it’s going to happen.”
He also warned people against aiding the suspects in avoiding arrest.
“If anybody helps these people — I mean so much as buy them a Happy Meal, give them a ride,” the visibly upset chief said. “We’re going to lock you up with them.”
