Tory Lanez has been found guilty on all three charges regarding the 2020 shooting of Megan thee Stallion by a Los Angeles jury.
Megan accused the Canadian rapper of shooting her in the foot following an argument after leaving a party in the Hollywood Hills.
The duo, alongside Kelsey Harris, a former friend of Megan’s were leaving the party in an Escalade before an argument broke out. According to Megan, the situation became so heated that she decided to exit the vehicle once it had stopped on a residential street. It was at that time that she told the court Tory Lanez opened fire and wounded her in the feet.
“He was holding the gun pointing at me,” Megan told the court, adding Lanez had shouted “dance b*tch” before firing five shots. “I froze. I felt shocked. I wasn’t really sure if this was happening … I looked at the ground and saw the blood … everyone was shocked.”
The defence argued that it was infact Harris who fired the weapon and not Tory Lanez. However, Harris denied that accusation during her testimony.
The 30-year-old was convicted of all three felony counts; assault with a semiautomatic handgun, carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle and discharging a firearm with gross negligence. He now faces more than 20 years in prison and could be deported.
“The jury got it right,” Megan’s attorney Alex Spiro said. “I am thankful there is justice for Meg.”
The 12-person jury made up of seven women and five men deliberated for about a day before reaching the verdict. Following the jury’s verdict, Tory was remanded in custody and is due to be sentenced on 27 January.
