Following the final part of the defence’s closing argument, the Jury have now begun deliberating if Tory Lanez really did it.
The Canadian rapper is on trial for shooting and wounding fellow rapper, Megan thee Stallion back in 2020. The 27-year-old Megan, whose legal name is Megan Pete, testified that Lanez fired a handgun at the back of her feet and shouted for her to dance after leaving a party in the Hollywood Hills in the summer of 2020. She needed surgery to remove bullet fragments from her feet.
After deliberating for three hours, the jury made up of seven women and five men couldn’t reach a verdict. The discussions will continue in the coming days.
On the other side, Tory, real name Daystar Peterson has repeatedly denied the accusation and pleaded not guilty. He’s charged with discharging a firearm with gross negligence, assault with a semiautomatic firearm and carrying a loaded, unregistered firearm in a vehicle.
He’s facing up to 22 years in prison and deportation back to Canada.
In his defence, Tory’s lawyer, George Mgdesyan alleged in his closing argument that the shots were actually fired by Megan’s then-best-friend Kelsey Harris in a jealous fight over Lanez. Harris also denied being the shooter.
An eyewitness also told the court that Tory was the one doing the shooting.
