Brock Purdy was the surprise hero of the day as the San Francisco 49ers blew out the Tampa Bay Buccaneers 35-7.
Purdy – the last pick of the 2022 NFL draft – got his first career start due to injuries to Trey Lance and Jimmy Garappolo. He went up against the legendary Tom Brady, and became the first ever quarterback to beat Brady in his first career start.
Purdy threw two touchdowns and completed one rushing touch down. He completed 16 of 21 passes for a total 185 yards with no interceptions and no sacks.
49ers’ Christian McAffrey also came up huge in the win, scoring two touchdowns.
The 49ers are now 9-4 and are the clear favourites in the NFC West. The Bucs drop to 6-7, though they are still projected to finish atop the NFC South.
