In a video posted to Twitter, the force said the incident occurred at around 2:40 p.m. on Tuesday in the Indian Line and Concession 14 Walpole.
The force said the officer was shot and was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.
“Our hearts go out to the officer’s family, his OPP colleagues, and all first responders impacted by this horrific event,” Haldimand County Mayor Shelley Bentley said in a press release.
The OPP said a man and a woman were spotted fleeing the scene in a black 2021 Chevrolet pick-up truck with an Ontario license plate.
