“Avatar: The Way of Water” has surpassed “Avengers: Infinity War” and is now the fifth-highest-grossing movie globally, earning over $2.046 billion.
The film is currently behind “Titanic” which has grossed $2.194 billion but is set to increase that total with its remastered 4K HDR 3D rerelease in February.
However, it is uncertain if “Avatar: The Way of Water” will be able to surpass “Titanic” as it faces competition from other movies for screens and viewers as the month progresses.
It is expected to continue its strong form until February when Marvel will release “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania.”
Director James Cameron is now the first to have three movies that have made over $2 billion worldwide, with “Avatar: The Way of Water” joining “Titanic” and the original “Avatar.”
There is a possibility that “Avatar: The Way of Water” will also receive a rerelease, possibly with additional footage, in the future.
Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Kate Winslet, Stephen Lang, and Sigourney Weaver are among the cast members of “Avatar: The Way of Water.”
The follow-up received favorable reviews from reviewers and is up for four Oscars, including best picture.
