Actor Lance Reddick will join Disney+’s upcoming TV series, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” as the god Zeus.
Toby Stephens is also joining the show as Percy’s father and the god of the sea Poseidon.
Reddick is best known for his starring role in the hit HBO series “The Wire” as well as his role as Charon in the “John Wick” film franchise.
Previously announced cast members include Walker Scobell as Percy as well as Aryan Simhadri as Grover, Adam Copeland as Ares, and Leah Sava Jeffries as Annabeth.
Author Rick Riordan, who wrote the original books, recently praised Copeland’s acting as the god of war.
“Focal an lae: coraí, wrestler, one who practices the sport of coraíocht. I’m thinking about this because of some great scenes Adam Copeland has filmed for us recently as Ares, the god of war,” Riordan wrote.
“As they used to say on the monster truck rally commercials of my youth: “You can pay for the whole seat, but you’ll only need the Edge!”
Riordan’s comments were echoed by actress Jessica Parker Kennedy, who plays Medusa on the show. “I think people are going to love it,” she said.
Based on the Rick Riordan book series of the same name, “Percy Jackson and the Olympians” follows the titular 12-year old demi-god as he is “just coming to terms with his newfound divine powers when the sky god Zeus accuses him of stealing his master lightning bolt,” the logline states.
“With help from his friends Grover and Annabeth, Percy must embark on an adventure of a lifetime to find it and restore order to Olympus.”
