Pro Rally driver and internet star Ken Block has died after sustaining severe injuries in a snowmobile accident.
According to the Wasatch County Sheriff’s Office, Block was riding a snowmobile at around 2 PM on a steep slope when the vehicle suddenly upended and landed on top of him.
Officials say he was pronounced dead on scene due to injuries he suffered during the accident.
“Mr. Block was riding with a group but was alone when the accident occurred,” the sheriff’s office said in a statement.
“We are saddened to hear of the loss of Kenneth and our hearts are with his family and friends so deeply affected.”
“It’s with our deepest regrets that we can confirm that Ken Block passed away in a snowmobile accident today,” his team – Hoonigan Racing – said in a statement on Instagram.
“Ken was a visionary, a pioneer and an icon. And most importantly, a father and husband. He will be incredibly missed.”
Having begun his rallying career in 2005, Block was named Rookie of the Year in the Rally America Championship. He competed in the World Rally Championship and won several rallycross medals at the X Games.
Ken is survived by his wife Lucy and 3 children. Block’s 16-year-old daughter Lia is also a driver.
