Sunwing flight WG732 was forced to make an emergency landing back at Toronto’s Pearson International Airport on Friday after experiencing low oil pressure in one of its engines shortly after takeoff.
The Boeing 737, bound for Montego Bay, Jamaica, was flying south of Pittsburgh when the pilot made the decision to shut down the affected engine and turn back to Toronto.
The plane landed safely at around 1 p.m. and was met by fire and emergency services upon arrival. Passengers were safely offloaded and no injuries were reported.
According to a statement from Sunwing, maintenance crews are currently investigating the issue with the engine. The airline is preparing to transport all passengers to Montego Bay later on Friday afternoon.
“We apologize for any inconvenience caused to our passengers and thank them for their patience and understanding during this unforeseen situation,” said Sunwing.
The incident highlights the importance of regular maintenance and safety checks for commercial airlines, as well as the quick thinking and expertise of pilots in handling emergency situations.
