Three Costco co-workers in Toronto, who play the lottery together, recently won a $1 million prize in the Lotto Max lottery.
The employees, Andre Nicholson of Vaughan, Aileen Mendoza of Toronto, and Rose Antonipillai of Woodbridge, said that before the shocking win, the three would take turns purchasing lottery tickets.
The Ontario Lottery and Gaming Corporation (OLG) said in a statement Tuesday that the three workers have claimed a $1 million Maxmillion prize from the Oct. 11 draw.
Nicholson said he was finishing a night shift at Costco when he checked their ticket using the OLG app.
“I saw $1 million but couldn’t believe it and scanned it several times,” Nicholson told the OLG. “Then [Antonipillai] and [Mendoza] scanned it to see for themselves.”
“This is a blessing,” Nicholson said.
Nicholson, meanwhile, said the three Costco employees are grateful for the win, which will be split up evenly at $333,000 each.
The OLG said they each have their own plans for the winnings: Nicholson plans to help others, Mendoza plans to pay bills, and Antonipillai will help her children.
Lotto Max is $5 per play and draws take place Tuesdays and Fridays.
