Maj.-Gen. Dany Fortin, who once led Canada’s vaccine rollout, has filed a $6 million lawsuit against the Canadian government, including Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and several top military and political figures.
Fortin was acquitted of a sexual assault charge in civil court in December 2021, and is now alleging defamation, misfeasance in public office, conspiracy, and negligent investigation.
The lawsuit accuses officials of “reprehensible, extreme, flagrant, and high-handed” conduct and seeks $5 million in general damages and $1 million in punitive damages.
Fortin’s legal team claims that he was not afforded due process and that the allegations have caused him significant grief.
The claim was filed with the Ontario Superior Court of Justice on Wednesday.
