During a staff-wide meeting held on Thursday, Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg defended the company’s recent announcement to cut 10,000 workers in a months-long restructuring and downsizing effort.
According to reports, employees expressed their duress over the past few months, punctuated by both a devastating layoff round in November and a currently unfinished round announced this week. Zuckerberg was asked about how employees are expected to trust the company’s leadership after two rounds of layoffs.
He stated that he would expect to be evaluated based on the company’s performance and transparency about its mission but that leaders should be allowed to change their thinking.
Zuckerberg also talked about the reasons behind the restructuring and layoffs and justified the second round of layoffs by saying that the financial challenges the company is undergoing are likely ongoing.
He stated that he observed heightened productivity following the November layoffs.
While some employees expressed concern and questioned the company’s leadership, others remained optimistic and saw this as an opportunity for the company to refocus its efforts.
Despite the challenges, Zuckerberg remained confident in his leadership and emphasized the importance of delivering results.
